Music Box was released in 1979 and is one of Evelyn King's albums never to have been made available in CD format before. The main production chores came from T Life, the man responsible for Evelyn's smash hit Shame. Notable input also comes in the form of backing vocalists Luther Vandross, Irene Cara, Jocelyn Brown and Instant Funk.

The sales for the album were strong and it was certified gold; at its height it peaked at #35 in the general US Charts and #12 in the US R&B Charts. There were 2 single releases from the album, the title track Music Box which peaked at #75 in the General charts and #14 in the R&B Charts, and Out There, which peaked at #34 on the US R&B charts.
